  • Salty snack help!

So my counselor has asked me to find a snack I like that is salty. Like chips or salted nuts. I’m not big on chips, I’ll eat tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants or occasionally at home, and buying things of nuts (I really like almonds and pistachios) can be semi-expensive. So I’ve come here for help!

Give me your ideas for snacks that are salty (and preferably cheap!) lol.
What is your favorite salty snack?
Basically the only time I consume moderate-high amounts of sodium is when I use condiments (mustard especially). And Asian foods with soy sauce. Hmm… if there was a cheap and good sushi place local I’d just go eat sushi with soy sauce as my snack lol :P But the good sushi around here is more of a special occasion/ once in a blue moon luxury xp.
And in case you’re wondering why a counselor is suggesting this  (Cause truthfully it sounds a little strange), it’s because bipolar disorder is normally treated with lithium carbonate (I think that’s the name?) which is kind of like a salt and it helps the neurons in your brain and shit. Idk, I understand what the counselor said and it makes sense, I just can’t repeat it back in a way that makes sense. Anyways, the sodium can help be calming and shizz xp
So tell me your favorite salty snacks, ideas for cheap salty snacks, even salty snacks you don’t like, and feel free to REC in order to spread the word and get a better collection of ideas! :)

  • Tater tots. Pretzels (with mustard/cheese/etc). Cheese (like the Babybel cheese wheels).

  • alot of soups are high in sodium but dont taste very salty. hope this helps!<3

  • Ramen noodles and those cup soups have a ton of salt lol. Pretzels like someone before me said- the off brands are fairly cheap. Popcorn!! That can be pretty salty sometimes.

  • Pretzels, salted popcorn(including the cheese varieties), veggie & nut Trail Mix.

  • Anything with canned tomato, frozen foods, there are lots of flavored potato chips.

  • Dollar Tree has a lot of cheap snacks like what you are looking for.

  •  I’ve never thought of you as bipolar, but I don’t know you well enough.  I have read you for a while under a different Xanga name that I abandoned to get rid of some unwanted friends.  Are you sure you aren’t just having some adjustment disorder?

It is true, however, that poor nutrition can damage the brain’s function or even it and that could be your problem.  I don’t naturally eat much salt, and I’ve run into the same problem as you.  My electrolytes have been dangerously low on more than a few occasions.  I eat miso soup to solve this problem because it’s low in calories too.

Lithium is evil though, so don’t take it.  It makes me get really sick.

  • Oh boy… probably nuts for me O_O

  • Popcorn! Deli meats, you could have saltine crackers with cheese, salad dressings are fairly high in sodium- so vegetables and dip?

  • cashews with salt are good!

  • I dip my watermelon and strawberries and mangoes amd pineapples in salt and chillies.

  • Pretzels, popcorn, trail mix.

  • Pretzels dipped in spicy brown mustard. :)

  • Pop chips are delicious (popped potato chips), same with flavoured Quaker rice cakes…

  • Canned meats/fish, pickles, broth, fruit juice, canned veggies, soup, bacon sausage hot dogs

  • Pretzels are good, as mentioned above. Not a big fan of salt, but I’ll rec for ya’.

  • @TheNightBelongsToThose - Lithium might have made YOU sick, but it might not make HER sick. Medications work differently with each individual.

As for me, I like any kind of potato chips. Or nachos with cheese or salsa.
Good luck with the snack find, and treatment!

  • How about… Salt?!!?

I used to eat that stuff as a kid

  • Since I’m seeing a lot of ‘pretzel’ and ‘mustard’ suggestions. I’ll throw in the suggestion of Snyder’s Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzels. They’re yumm!!

  • thnkyou baby

  • All the unhealthy snack has a lot of sodium. Go to the dollar tree store for cheap and high in sodium snack. Regular v8 has a lot of sodium too.

In general most people eat too much sodium. Soy sauce in sushi places isn’t that much.
